When to Adjust Your Oil Change Frequency 

It’s always a good idea to follow the recommendations laid out in your owner’s manual, so that should be the first place you look when you’re deciding how often to change your oil. However, it’s important to point out that those recommendations are based on the manufacturer’s idea of normal driving conditions.

For this reason, there are some circumstances when it makes sense to adjust your oil change frequency. In fact, more frequent oil changes will never hurt you, and they’ll probably keep your engine cleaner over the long term. However, more frequent oil changes may be necessary if you ever engage in the following: 

• Off-road driving or overlanding
• Commercial use/transportation
• Heavy towing or hauling
• Racing or performance driving

Perhaps you only take your Jaguar out on occasion, and you don’t rack up miles very quickly. Should you still follow the mileage guideline based above? Since oil can break down over time even if it isn’t being used, we still recommend an oil change at least once per year. This will also help to ensure that all of the seals in your oil system continue to operate as intended.

How Often Should You Check Your Oil Level?

Even if you schedule your regular oil changes on time, you should still check your oil level on a monthly basis.That’s because running with insufficient oil can be just as damaging, if not moreso, than running on dirty, degraded oil. Monthly checks can help you catch leaks before they damage your engine, and they also give you a change to inspect your oil quality.
